What To Expect From Your First Vist
Your or your child's first visit will include a detailed discussion of your concerns and goals. This will include questions not only about the problem you are requesting help with, but also birth history, past medical history, family history, and medications or other treatments being used or contemplated. Following this discussion a physical examination will be performed. Following the examination if it is felt OMT will likely be beneficial, the treatment will be performed.
The treatment for infants may take place on the examination table, in the parent's arms, or even during feeding. Patients of other age are usually treated while sitting or laying on the examination table. During the treatment the patient is clothed (except for shoes). The treatment, like the examination will usually consist of palpation (feeling), gentle pressure and moving body parts into different positions.
