Aligned with the basic principles of Osteopathic Medicine, these are manual treatments, usually with the DO using just their hands. The goal is to remove restrictions in the body which prevent the body from its natural tendency toward good health. Because the body is seen as one interrelated and integrated unit, treatments may be performed on a part of the body that is distant to the site of a person's complaint.
There are a wide array specific OMT techniques. This may include myofascial release, cranial, muscle energy, balanced ligamentous or membranous technique, strain-counterstrain, trigger point inhibition and visceral to name just a few. Specific selection of technique type and it's application will be based on the results of each individual person's evaluation and their needs.
